Charity challenge for Breast Cancer Now – Yorkshire Three Peaks

Why are we raising money for Breast Cancer Now?

In June 2024, myself (Ryan) and Ellie (co-founders and company directors here at The Mystery Gift Box), as well as a couple of friends – Dave and Helen – will be undertaking the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge to raise money for Breast Cancer Now.

This charity is particularly close to our hearts, as Ellie was diagnosed with Stage 4 incurable breast cancer in October 2022.

Breast Cancer Now are at the forefront of new treatments and research to fight the good fight against cancer; whether that be working on preventative measures, or life-extending drugs.

Approximately 55,400 people are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and there are approximately 61,000 people living with stage 4 breast cancer in the UK (our Ellie included). Source: https://breastcancernow.org/about-us/why-we-do-it/breast-cancer-facts-and-statistics/

What is the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge?

The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge takes place in the lovely Yorkshire Dales, and is a 24 mile long round trip hike up and down three Yorkshire peaks; Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough.

The total height climbed will be 1585m, and the challenge is to be completed in a single 12 hour period. So, for us, that will hopefully mean a 7am start, and by 7pm, we will have completed the route, and having a nice cold beer!

What can you do to help?

If you wanted to help, we would be over the moon if you could have a look at our Just Giving page below, where Ellie has written her story in her own words, and of course, any donations would be enormously appreciated.

Ellie is the strongest, most amazing person I know, and her attempting of this challenge is testament to her strong willpower, and desire to make a difference, despite having finished an intensive round of chemotherapy and radiotherapy a little over a year ago, and also monthly injections to keep the cancer at bay.

Most importantly, Ellie wants to see our two young children grow up, and has a dream of beating incurable cancer. If anyone can do it, she certainly can, and that is why it is so important that we help to raise money for Breast Cancer Now, because a new breakthrough could be just around the corner that cures incurable cancer.

Thank you for reading, and thank you for any help you can provide!
